- Fill out the attached application (Click here to download an application)
- Read the guidelines for applicants (Click here to download the guidelines)
Applicants must be experienced community leaders in successful environmental projects/campaigns who have built coalitions and relationships with other community groups and leaders. Applicants can choose from ReelGreen's model library, or develop a plan that can be successfully implemented in their community with the guidance of ReelGreen staff and volunteers.
It is expected that many events facilitated by Reel Green will result in meaningful positive change, and can serve as models for future actions on behalf of the planet. With this in mind, short films documenting a select number of events will be produced by ReelGreen for inclusion in the Model Library. The production of these short documentaries will be overseen by our Media Director in consultation with the Executive Director and Director of Operations. Production of Solution Shorts will be subject to the following procedures and guidelines.
A documentary production committee comprised of the Executive Director, Director of Operations, the Director of Media Development, and others deemed appropriate will meet bi-annually to review upcoming events and determine potential projects to document. Subsequent communications with the event hosts and relevant local parties will be held to ascertain the viability of documentation, and potential production companies will be nominated. The Media Director will solicit bids for production, and a production company will be selected in committee. ReelGreen personnel with filmmaking expertise will be given first priority.
The decision to document an event shall balance the following factors:
- Importance:What is the potential for a film to have a far-reaching, positive effect? This includes the impact of the project itself, and the impact of distributing information about the project.
- Location: Events local to ReelGreen personnel (especially those with film-making expertise) may be easier to document, especially on an ongoing basis.
- Time Frame: Events with the potential for rapid accomplishment of meaningful action can reduce effort and expense in documentation.
- Personnel Expertise:Familiarity of Reel Green personnel with the project and its concepts facilitates documentation.
Criteria regarding minimum fulfillment of production responsibilities shall be established prior to awarding contracts, as shall dates for periodic progress reports and/or screenings.
Subject to committee review, contracts between ReelGreen and individual production companies shall stipulate that production companies are responsible for clearance of all rights, and must provide errors and omissions insurance. RG shall retain all distribution rights. RG shall retain the right to terminate contracts in the event progress criteria are not met.
The documentary production committee will review the finished documentary, and specify corrections if necessary. Audience review surveys may be included at all screenings, including online. The Media Director will analyze available reviews, and present summaries at bi-annual documentary committee meetings.
